About Me

My photo
Peter Richardson
I've written critically acclaimed books about Hunter S. Thompson, the Grateful Dead, Ramparts magazine, and Carey McWilliams. My essays have appeared in The Nation, The New Republic, the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Literary Hub, and many other outlets. I also like to review books and received the National Entertainment Journalism Award for Online Criticism in 2013. From 2006 to 2023, I taught at San Francisco State University. Before that, I was an English professor at the University of North Texas. Along the way, I also worked as an editor at the University of California Press, PoliPoint Press, the Public Policy Institute of California, and Harper & Row, Publishers. Back in the days of yore, I earned a Ph.D. in English from the University of California, Berkeley.
